word on the street.

Lane Avenue Edition:

As a long time Upper Arlington resident, and a recent first time home buyer as well as a Realtor in the area- any community development gossip always perks my ears up. The recent rumors about a Hotel and other Commercial business going in on Lane Avenue hits very close to home, literally, as I live five houses in from Lane Avenue.

What I am about to tell you is what is rumored to be the plan. I am unaware of what is set in stone, and what is still in the development states- but I will tell you all I have heard.....

  • First- there is the issue of the Wine Bistro parking lot. Parking was not planned well, and overflow onto Brandon Road and Chester Road is a nightly issue. There are approx. 10 parking tickets issued a night. There is a meeting coming up tonight at UA City Council to discuss doing a 90 day trial of enforcing Permit Parking on that street. It used to be permit only, until 2005 when they took permit signs down. Other solutions are being discussed, such as using the Sunoco station as employee parking and overflow parking, or using Lane Avenue as valet parking. At this point, nothing has been decided.
  • Second- on Lane Avenue, between Wellesley and Westmont, a small boutique hotel, Hyatt Brand, is in the works. This hotel would be meant for extended stay guests, and it would be 125-200 rooms. The specific location is unclear at this point.
  • Third- Where the Baptist church on Lane Avenue is located there is talk of apartments and a parking structure with a one story underground parking lot.
  • Fourth- On the corner lot of Westmont and Lane, where the exercise equipment currently is, a plan for a restaurant and catering hall with a rooftop garden is in the works.
I am not sure how I feel about all of this. Change is always hard, but sometimes it can be for the better. Any comments? If anyone would like to go to the City Council meeting to speak their minds, below is the schedule for discussion:

Monday, April 25 @ 7:30 PM @ the Municipal Services Building at Tremont and Kenny Road
Friday, April 29 @ 7:30 AM @  Tremont and Kenny Road
