Montana’s Flathead Valley has been a regional vacation destination since the Great Northern Railroad first pioneered a route into Whitefish at the north end of the valley. Executives of the railroad, seeking to establish the area as a world class destination in the late 1800s lobbied for approval of Glacier National Park. Their efforts succeeded in 1910, and since then the Park and the adjoining valley has grown into national and international prominence. (Click above link for entire article).
