Montana’s Flathead Valley has been a regional vacation destination since the Great Northern Railroad first pioneered a route into Whitefish at the north end of the valley. Executives of the railroad, seeking to establish the area as a world class destination in the late 1800s lobbied for approval of Glacier National Park.
